Frequently Asked Questions About Family Doctors

I am planning a vacation with my kids. Is there a need for vaccination?

Generally, it is recommended that children, as well as the elderly have travel immunization before international travel.

What is the difference between required and recommended immunization?

Certain countries required a particular vaccine before entering in order to prevent the spreading of that particular disease in that country. Yellow Fever is the only vaccine that is still to this day required by certain countries. On the other hand, there are recommended immunizations, which are sought out by the CDC and WHO as already problematic in a particular country.

What is Chinese Herbology?

Chinese herbology belongs to the herbal medicine approach that is not applied in the way that most herbs and medicines are used in our Western world. As the western schools of thought refer to a particular effect that is consequently caused by taking a certain medicine, Chinese Herbal medicine was developed as an integral part of Chinese Medicine. Therefore, a cold would be treated by determining the cause and the adequate group of herbs would be combined to treat the whole problem.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is defined as the cessation of breathing during sleep. There are three different types of sleep apnea: obstructive, central and mixed.

What is obstructive sleep apnea?

This type of sleep apnea is characterized by repetitive pauses in breathing due to obstruction and/or a collapse of the upper throat paired with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation and followed by an awakening to breathe.

What is central sleep apnea?

Central sleep apnea is a condition causing cessation of all respiratory efforts during sleep. In the situation, the person is aroused from sleep by an automatic breathing reflex and may not be getting much rest during sleep at all.

What is mixed apnoea?

Mixed apnoea is a combination of the previous two. The condition usually begins with a central component and then becomes obstructive.

Did You Know?

Blood pressure is an important measure of health.
As blood is pumped from your heart through your body, the blood exerts force or pressure against the blood vessel walls. Your blood pressure reading is a measure of this pressure. When that reading goes above a certain point, it is called high blood pressure or hypertension, which can be lowered and controlled with medication and changes in lifestyle and diet. ||
